Sommersparkle
With the onset of summer with the recent Memorial Day weekend, wedding season kicks into high gear. To celebrate this season, Mary's Remedies newsletter is proud to feature Pamela Sommers from Sommersparkle, an online jewelry store. At Sommersparkle, Pamela showcases wedding jewelry, tiaras, pearl jewelry sets and so many more elegant designs.
Recently, I interviewed Pamela, who lives with her family in London, England. She told me about her life, setting up her shop, some of the struggles that she has encountered as being an entrepreneur in today's world.
The Pearl is Formed in Suffering
It all began when tragedy struck at an early age. When her mother was only 47, she passed away, leaving Pamela devastated. Now, in her early 40's herself, Pam finds herself thinking about her own mother. She said to me, "Now that I am in my early 40's, I often think of the age that my mother died. Perhaps, this is why I wanted to make a difference in the world, no matter how small. I am a laid back kind of next door girl with a 'keep your head down and get on with it attitude'." This attitude caused her to naturally develop an ambitious and self-sufficient heart that is necessary for an entrepreneur.
The Conception of Sommersparkle: An Entrepreneur's Heart, A Bracelet and A Son
This entrepreneur heart of Pam led her to begin Sommersparkle. It all began with a bracelet and her son.....well, sort of! The Bracelet: "It all began with a bracelet," Pam writes. "I was thinking how lovely shamballa bracelets are and decided to purchase some from a lady who makes them. These were unique as they were crystal. People were saying how beautiful they were."
The Son: Pam explains, "(On one) evening while my son and I were watching TV, I thought how lovely it would be if we could use our surname ‘Sommers’ in a project. Since I realized how many compliments I received about the bracelets I thought of how they sparkle with movement. We then agreed that ‘SommerSparkle’ would make a good name." Sommersparkle was conceived in her heart.
The Labor, Birth and Struggles of Sommersparkle
As with raising children, there are always struggles. While we dream of smooth sailing, life happens. There are struggles along the way. Pam writes of one major struggle she has had to deal with. Approximately 2 years ago, "I was working in a school office at a local Catholic school until I had a gardening accident, which left my right wrist injured. I had limited movement in my right hand and sadly, no longer had the job in the school. I can tell you it is very frustrating when you are used to taking your dominant hand for granted. I struggled to do the most simple tasks such as washing my hair, dressing, cooking, making a sandwich or drink and even eating with cutlery was tough. I found my greatest challenge continuing the idea (of Sommersparkle) despite the injury, which can still be very painful."
"But, what I love is when I see a smile on someone’s face, the moment when their face lights up when they wear a piece of jewellery. That’s what reminds me to continue. That’s what ‘SommerSparkle’ is all about, making You Smile," Pam concludes.
